DUI Lawyer Augusta County Virginia: S.C. Sheriff’s DUI: The Sheriff was driving a County vehicle when the accident occurred. Since the Sheriff fled the scene other law enforcement was contacted to locate the involved vehicle and driver. DeWitt was stopped operating the vehicle from the crash. The 63 year old Sheriff apparently took a roadside gymnastics test also called a standardized field sobriety test. According to the Officer who gave the test DeWitt’s test results were consistent with an alcohol level over the legal limit and arrested the Sheriff. The Sheriff refused the evidential breath test. The Sheriff’s accident came during a federally funded “sober or slammer program” designed to arrest drivers determined to be impaired by alcohol or other drugs.
